It is now the third round of the World Rugby Under-20 Championship taking place in Northern Italy. This round will be followed by the knock-out rounds which are decided by what happens in the three pools.

The referees have been appointed to this important round.

So far teams that have full 10 points are England, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, and France have nine points and Ireland eight. This last round sees these teams playing each other for the top place in their pool: England vs France, South Africa vs Australia and New Zealand vs Ireland.

The knock-outs will also reveal the team that will end 12th and so demoted to be replaced by Georgia. Those on nought are Wales, Japan, Italy and Samoa while Scotland have just one point and Argentina two points.

These close matches will put pressure on the referees and usually bring out the best in them. It is important for their careers as several referees have emerged from the Championship and become Test referees, including South Africa's latest Test referee, Marius van der Westhuizen who was at the Under-20 Championship just last year and will referee his first Test this week.
