Centre Wandisile Simelane (13) of the Lions kicks downfield. Near him, is Marnus Schoeman (6) is near Simelane and in front of him. Schoeman runs after the ball. The referee calls to him to stop. Schoeman runs on. The referee penalises Schoeman.
Law 10 OFFSIDE AND ONSIDE IN OPEN PLAY
1. A player is offside in open play if that player is in front of a team-mate who is carrying the ball or who last played it. An offside player must not interfere with play. This includes:
- Playing the ball
- Tackling the ball-carrier.
- Preventing the opposition from playing as they wish.
4. An offside player may be penalised, if that player:
b. Moves forwards towards the ball,
Where is the penalty?
The place of the penalty is where Schoeman went offside, that is where he moved forward.
The referee was correct in his decision.
